Ife Crisis: Ooni Wants Afenifere To Exercise Caution, Patience

The Ooni Of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has warned against politicising the recent communal clash that rocked the ancient city.

Ooni Ogunwusi gave the warning while playing host to leaders of the Pan Yoruba Group, Afenifere who were on a condolence visit to his palace today, in Ife.

The monarch also advised the group to be patient and apply caution in handling the aftermath of the crisis, to avoid escalating the issue.

Aftermath of the communal clash which rocked the ancient town of Ile-fe sometimes this month is one that has been generating different reactions from various quarters of the Nigerian Society.

From claim of indiscriminate arrest and parade of some people suspected to be involved in the crisis by different Yoruba groups to1 allegation of partiality against the police.

Although, about three panel of investigation and commission of inquiries have been put in place to unravel the causes of the crisis and bring the perpetrators to book, some Yoruba groups have continued to express lack of confidence, especially in the police.

Led to the Ile-Odua by Chief Ayo Adebanjo and Olu Falae, Afenifere accused the police of bias and unfair treatment the Yorubas in the town.

Chief Adebanjo alleged that only Yorubas have been arrested and paraded by the police so far in connection with the clash.

The group vowed to resist any attempt by any ethnic group to dominate.

Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi was quick to implore Afenifere to be patient and exercise caution in its dealings as it affects the crisis.

The monarch, who appealed all concerned parties to ensure that the matter is not politicised also tasked the police to be just and fair in their investigation, without prejudice to either of the parties.

Afenifere group later visited sabo community where it was received with mixed feelings.
