From Senator To Commissioner :Those To Look Out For In Aregbesola’s New Cabinet

On Tuesday, the speaker of the state Assembly, Rt.Hon. Najeem Salam read the names of the nominees as sent by the governor, at the plenary, putting an end to speculations. Some names which had been missing in the public list also missed the authentic, but politicians will always be ahead as some names came up which were some sort of surprise. In any case, these are the names to look out for in the incoming cabinet of Osun state after 29 months.
Mudashiru Hussein
Surprisingly, the name of Senator Mudashiru Hussein was kept in the wrap for the weeks which names were bandied around of those who made Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola’s cabinet list.

Born Mudasiru Oyetunde Hussein in Ejigbo Osun west , Hussein was elected as a representative for Oshodi-Isoloin Lagos State in 1999 as a member of the Alliance for Democracy party, and was reelected in 2003.
Standing for the Action Congress in the 2007 senate elections for Osun West, he was defeated by Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke. Hussein appealed the election decision, presenting evidence that included video clips showing ballot boxes being taken away by thugs and voters being threatened with dangerous weapons, but the tribunal did not consider this sufficient to overturn the result.
In the April 2011 senate elections for Osun West Husain received 121,971 votes, with the incumbent Senator Adeleke of the PDP coming second with 77,090 votes.
But the 2015 political permutations in Osun state were unfavorable to Mudashiru Hussein, as his ticket was given to Senator Isiaka Adeleke while other two senators retained their tickets.
Apparently boxed into a corner by the unwavering loyalty of Hussein, The governor would have no choice than to fix him up “somewhere” if a federal appointment is not forthcoming. Fingers are however crossed to see if he will be made a substantive commissioner or Senior Special Assistant with Commissioner Status. If to be made a commissioner, He may well fit in to be the commissioner for special duties.

Ajibola Bashiru
He needs no introduction. He is one of the foot soldiers of Governor Rauf Aregbesola and a very close ally of the governor. He was the commissioner for special duties during the first term of Aregbesola. But with the coming in of Senator Mudashiru Hussein, Ajibola Bashiru may be heading for the ministry of Justice being an erudite scholar and Ph.D holder for that matter. The crux is, where ever SRJ is in Aregbesola’s government, he will remain relevant.

Oluremi Omowaye
An engineer by training, but Omowaye has distinguished himself more in the handling of Aregbesola’s media campaign and activities. He is among the few aides who held on to their portfolios. Omowaye is the SSA to the governor on New Media and the De-facto controller of the state owned TV and Radio stations. With the name of erstwhile commissioner for information Sunday Akere missing out, it is possible that Remi Omowaye be elevated to that office.

Adelani Baderinwa
The amiable and very articulate communicator is no doubt coming on board on double ground of his professional excellence and political loyalty. Adelani Baderinwa was the Chief Press Secretary to the Ex-Governor Bisi Akande and much after then was brought into the government of Rauf Aregbesola in his first term under an arrangement which people described as non-commensurate with the personality and profile of Baderinwa. Nonetheless, Baderinwa stood his ground and for several times recently, he had defended the government of Aregbesola in so many fora.

Bar. Gbenga Awosode
Some quarters have described Rauf aregbesola as an activist and his unending romance with these set of clique sometimes prove that assertion to be true. Amitolu Shittu, Waheed Lawal and now Barrister Gbenga Awosode. Gbenga Awosode was born in Ile Ife and former president of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR).  Awosode is known to be a core Marxist, proponent of Yoruba self determination and ideological student of Late Comrade Olaoni. It won’t be out of place if Barrister, Comrade Awosode is saddled with managing labour and union relations because this is essential for the government of Rauf Aregbesola for he must manage protests and protesters now, more than ever before.

What is very common in this new list is that they are trusted hands of Governor Rauf Aregbesola. This may partly explain why it took the governor extra months before forming this new cabinet. Since there is an apparent crack in Osun APC, with the Lasun Yussuf faction having its proponents, this no doubt is a painstaking formation of those who will lead the 2018 gubernatorial onslaught as the governor will need every percent of loyalty he can muster to fight internal and external forces come 2018.
