#NotTooYoungToRun: N.Assembly Committee Drops Bill As Advocates Set For Showdown

The  #NotTooYoungToRun advocates appear set for a show with the nation’s lawmakers.

This is coming on the heels of reports that the  #NotTooYoungToRun bill was dropped in the ongoing amendments to the 1999 constitution by the joint review committee of the national assembly.

Ondo state Coordinator of the #NotTooYoungToRun Obatola Jonathan in a statement in Akure said investigatons have revealed why the lawmakers dropped the bill that has gathered momentum across the country.

He said “Investigations  revealed that at the committee level, the  #NotTooYoungToRun bill was dropped for selfish reasons because should it sail through, most of lawmakers would be unseated in 2019″.

It is sad that Nigeria is not ready for younger leaders,  ground can’t be ceded for young people as they have no place in leadership and politics. This is pathetic”.

“Admittedly,  this is the most crucial stage of our campaign. Therefore whatever we say or do has implications on the outcome. We  knew we were not going to get through this bill without a fight.”

He however said that since they saw this coming and they would not back out of this ‘idealogical, emotional and intellectual and non-violent struggle’.

“This is the time to demonstrate the true character and power of citizens. We will do so with the highest sense of responsibility and leadership. Our country beckons on us to stand up to defend justice, equity and  inclusion.”

He said the  #NotTooYoungToRun campaign strategy team will meet today to take a position on the next line of action.

“For Now, let’s begin to reach out to people within our network and kindly Visit www.yiaga.org/nottooyoungtorun to sign the petition to let our legislators know that voices of youths  matter.” Jonathan said.
