Real Madrid broke Atletico Madrid 26-game unbeaten run in LaLiga league tonight with their 2-0 victory at the Alfredo Di Stéfano.

Conceding twice without reply doubled the number of goals Atletico had allowed in the entire season to this point, while also meaning a first league loss of the campaign for Diego Simeone’s team.

The first early chance fell the way of Karim Benzema, who turned on the edge of the box and crashed in a left-footed shot – which drew a superb fingertip save onto the post from Jan Oblak, who had conceded just two goals in 10 league matches heading into the derby.

Real Madrid made a blistering start and deservedly took the lead in the 15th minute when Casemiro headed home from a corner, leaving Atletico behind for the first time in their 11th league game of the season.

Dani Carvajal put Zinedine Zidane’s Real side further at ease with a stunning strike in the 63rd minute which came off the post and into the net off keeper Jan Oblak for an own goal.

Atletico were utterly outplayed by the champions and did not have any attempts on goal in the first half, while they failed to manage a shot on target until the 80th minute when Saul Niguez’s header was saved by Thibaut Courtois.
