Eight suspected cyber fraudsters arrested in Rivers

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Port Harcourt Zonal Office have arrested eight suspected internet scammers.

On Tuesday, the agency smashed two hideouts of internet fraudsters at Mandela Housing Estate, Rumuokoro and Street One, Radio Road Estate, Ozuoba in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

Among the suspects arrested were seven men and one woman whose identities were given as Vandross Ebre; Tochukwu Mbonu;  Charles Mba; Okoroma Robinson; Ruth Allison; Timothy Godspower, Kingsley Obilor and Sampson Ajaka.

Head, Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement on Tuesday, said the arrest of the suspects, followed intelligence on alleged internet-related fraud pinpointed to busted hideouts.

Upon their arrest by the anti-graft agency, nine assorted phones, eight laptops of different brands, one silver-coloured Lexus ES 330 Sports Utility Vehicle, one maroon black-coloured Lexus ES 330 Sports Utility Vehicle and one white-coloured Mercedes Benz GLK 350 Sport Utility Vehicle were recovered from the suspects.

Uwujaren added that the suspected internet fraudsters popularly known as “Yahoo boys” would be charged to court accordingly once investigations were concluded.

He said, “The suspects will be charged to court as soon investigations are concluded.”
