Oyetola, Aregbesola feud deepens as Aide choose sides

The feud between Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola and his predecessor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has deepened as aide resign appointment.

The Osun State Commissioner for Federal Matters in the government of Governor Oyetola, Idiat Babalola, who according to source belong to Aregbesola caucus resigned her appointment.

According to reports, the former commissioner got a federal government appointment who according to the source very close to Mrs Babalola, was facilitated by the minister of Interior.

It was gathered that much pressure was on Idiat, Aregbesola’s ally, in the cabinet of Oyetola and quit her job with the state government to take Federal Government appointment as Chairperson of Governing Board, Adeyemi College of Education.

Recall that Idiat served as the Special Adviser to the Incumbent Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Aregbesola, on Federal Matters during his tenure as governor in the state.

When contacted about the resignation, Idiat confirmed the development saying: “It is authentic. Thank you.”

She however, did not disclose further the reason for her resignation.

A source in Oyetola cabinet narrated that “Truly, she got a federal government appointment as the Chairman of the Governing Board of Adeyemi College of Education but there are other underlying factors. She is Rauf Aregbesola’s ally and very loyal to him. This almost cost her life when Adeleke died.

“She is being treated more like a figurehead in the cabinet and needs to quit. She got an offer and decided to leave the government. Amidst all the crisis between Aregbesola and Oyetola, she remained loyal to Aregbe,” a source said.

“We (Oyetola government) gave her latitude to operate even when we knew she belonged to Aregbesola camp without even considering her political value. The truth is that she wanted to take the two appointments together but some people now told her to leave one for another.

“She was only too greedy. She wants to hold the two positions and was forced to resign,” Oyetola aide said.

Idiat, who recently tendered her resignation from the service of the State sequel to her appointment as Chairman, Governing Council, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, expressed gratitude to Oyetola for his immense assistance while she served under his leadership.

Governor Oyetola, however, bone Thursday, congratulated, Idiat on her federal appointment, adding that her contributions to the development of the State were both commendable and appreciated.

Oyetola also wished Babalola success in her new assignment.

Her resignation from the Osun Executive Council took effect from April 20, 2021.
