[BREAKING] June 12: Police fire tear gas at protesters in Lagos, Abuja

Nigeria Police Force on Saturday morning fired tear gas canisters at the protesters gathered at venue of the June 12 Democracy Day protest in Lagos and Abuja.

The protesters were demanding an end to bad governance when they were tear-gassed by the security operatives.

Timenews learnt that Lagos State Police Command fired tear gas canisters at the protesters gathered at the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Lagos.

However, in the Gudu area of the Federal Capital Territory when they stormed the area and started firing teargas canisters.

Confirming the incident, Abuja-based rights activist, Comrade Deji Adeyanju said the attack was carried out by the Police and DSS.

He tweeted, “We have just been attacked by the police and SSS in Abuja as expected. #June12thProtest.”

However, at the Millennium Park just opposite the fountain, a few individuals wearing branded T-shirts with the inscription ‘I Stand With Buhari’ had assembled.
