Police Salary: Reps Summons  IGP, AGF,  Others Over Non Implementation Of 20% Increase

The House of Representatives on Tuesday has called for interface with the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, ministers of Finance, Budget and National Planning on why the 20 percent increase approved by Mr President is yet to be implemented.

It was reported that the president Muhammadu Buhari approved a 20 percent salary increase for the police which till date has not been implemented.

The Nigerian police for according to records have been identified as one of the most poorly paid.

Recall also that recently, Nigeria Police Force had threatened to embark on strike due to poor renumeration.

Following this, Chairman house committee has summoned the Ministry of Finance, budget and planning the IGP, salaries and wages, Accountant General of the Federation and other relevant stakeholders to explain why the president’s directive has not been carried out despite an increase in the police budget but 10 billion naira..

He said the police and the independent electoral commission (INEC) are supposed to be well renumerated now that elections to transit is under way.

Hon. Kumo called for more finding for the police force to enable them tackle the rising state of insecurity in the country.

The three bills for consideration on how to improve the operation of the Nigeria Police was up for consideration today.
